MIME changes in next SpaceFM

For those interested in some testing, the spacefm next branch (spacefm-git in the Arch Linux AUR, or follow the easy BUILD NEXT instructions in the README) now uses mimeapps.list instead of defaults.list, with some improvements as detailed in the comments here.

Also, using design mode right-click or F2 on a mime app in the Open context submenu now opens a menu which serves as a basic mime associations editor. Thanks for any feedback on these changes before the next release.

If you’re concerned, you can make a backup copy of your MIME stuff before testing, eg:

    cp -r ~/.local/share/applications ~/.local/share/applications-bak

Otherwise you’ll be able to get these features in the release following 0.7.7.

  1. what does it mean to have
    configurable columns? can
    custom columns be added through
parameter settings in a resource file?
can the file size column be configured
to use a different number format or
    precision? thanks for any help,
this does not seem to be discussed
    in user manual

    • Hi, You can choose what columns appear in the file list from a provided set (Type, Size, etc), and you can reorder them how you want. You can’t add arbitrary columns, and cannot set a number format. Although the number format isn’t a bad idea – I may add micro options like this if I rework the Prefs dialog.

None of this part of the program is in the manual yet but will be eventually.
