Mplayerstart Updated For Zenity

mplayerstart now uses Zenity by default for its pop-up messages (eg “File Not Found”). A recent update to either GTK or Xdialog caused Xdialog to not work properly with GTK RC files (the “font-name” setting in particular). mplayerstart can also use Xdialog or kdialog – set your preference in the User Defaults section.

Also, an AUR package has been added for easy installation of mplayerstart on Arch Linux.

  1. I don’t know if you’re aware of a project called yad, it’s a fork of zenity. http://code.google.com/p/yad/ The project is active and the author is pretty responsive to comments and feature requests. I stumbled on it when I had problem with Xdialog and didn’t want to use zenity because of heavy dependencies.

    • Unfortunately yad isn’t in the official Arch repos (not sure about Ubuntu), unlike Zenity which is in both Arch and Ubuntu. This makes it a little harder for people to install when using my scripts. But it does look promising – I’ll take a look. I suspect you could use yad as a drop-in replacement for my zenity-based scripts. Thanks for the link.

      • You’re right…Ubuntu people will need to compile it from tarball. I believe zenity script will work with yad except for standard message dialogs such as –error or –question.

Thanks for the scripts…they are useful.
